  About The School

Programs and Admissions Procedures

Students can attend the STAR Center for Learning by way of four programs; Middle Grades Matter (MGM), Jump Start, Disciplinary Placement, or Personal Alternative Choices In Education (PACE).

Middle Grades Matter (MGM)

The MGM program provides intensive academic interventions for middle school students who are overage for grade level. Students are recommended by their principals and must be interviewed for admission. Classroom grades, MAP test scores, and behavior are some indicators that will be used to monitor academic progress and placement for students returning to their home schools.

Jump Start

The purpose of the Jump Start to High School Program (JSHS) is to create an alternative learning environment which fosters academic success for overage eighth grade students. JSHS is an alternative educational setting within the Star Center for Learning. As a school-within-a school, the JSHS provides an academic program designed to help students receive high school credits toward graduation.

Disciplinary Placement

Students are placed at the STAR Center for Learning by the Assistant Superintendent for Operations and Planning or the District Hearing Panel as a result of disciplinary problems. Students will remain at the STAR Center for a minimum of twenty (20) days and must successfully complete the point system before being considered to return to his or her home school.

Personal Alternative Choices In Education (PACE)

This program is designed to meet the needs of students who are not finding success in the regular school setting by offering alternative pathways for graduation. The PACE program will target those students who are at a high risk of dropping out of regular school due to attendance, pregnancy, poor academic performance, home and work conflicts, loss of credits due to transfer, etc.
